On the island of Tiree 133 bird species have been seen. The freshwater Loch a'Phuill attracts waders such as Zwarte Ruiter, Morinelplevier, Groenpootruiter and Oeverloper. In the dunes there may be IJsgors, Sneeuwgors, Kwartelkoning, Velduil or Sprinkhaanzanger. The cliffs at Ceann a Mhara are a useful seawatch point in autumn and have breeding Zeekoet, Alk, Noordse Stormvogel, Drieteenmeeuw, Kuifaalscholver and perhaps Slechtvalk or Alpenkraai.

Tiree is reached by ferry from the mainland, or by air from Glasgow. The loch and cliffs are accessed from Barrapol or Balephuil in the island's SW corner.
