Beschrijving
An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly Fitis and Tjiftjaf, but also Braamsluiper and Zwartkop. More mature trees provide habitat for Bosuil. Boomklever and Halsbandparkiet have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular IJsvogel and Grote Gele Kwikstaart, and occasional Waterspreeuw in winter. In its lower tidal section Tureluur is regular, and the semi-tame Wilde Eends can attract other ducks, including Bergeend, Wintertaling, and more rarely Pijlstaart and Mandarijneend. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; IJsduiker, Zeekoet and Alk have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of Drieteenmeeuws moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.

Much of the area is covered by a good network of well-surfaced paths (suitable for cycles and wheelchairs), but some areas are muddy in winter or after heavy rain. Click on a P in the map for directions.
