Description
Marais d'Olives is a young wetland, restored after decades of intensive agriculture. Bordeaux Métropole bought the land in 2016 and began re‑establishing a functional marsh: reopening water circulation and allowing spontaneous vegetation to return. The site covers about 86 hectares. A short 1.5 km educational trail, a birdwatching hide, and a viewpoint let visitors follow the slow transformation of the landscape. Marais d’Olives is part of the larger Parc des Jalles, a 6,000‑hectare mosaic of rivers, wet meadows, farmland, and natural zones. Bird you can observe include Blåstrupe, Sivhauk, Myrhauk, Silkehegre, Egretthegre, Krikkand, Knoppsvane, Vipe, Svartvingeglente and many others.
