Description
The area is of great importance for breeding birds of semi-natural grasslands and wetlands. Around 80 species of breeding birds are recorded annually, including Storspove, Vipe, Stork , Dvergdykker, Vannrikse, Vaktel, Knekkand, Krikkand, Skjeand, Snadderand, Lerkefalk, Gjøk, Blåstrupe, Svartstrupe, Rørsanger (rarely Sivsanger and Trostesanger) and Tornskate. Large flocks of Tundragås use the area during winter, and also a small group of Dverggås from a rewilding project in Sweden has established a "tradition" to visit the area for wintering, starting in 2017. In late winter, the area serves as roosting place for hundreds of Trane and during spring migration, a great variety of ducks and waders can be encountered. Occasionally, rarities show up (e.g. Purpurhegre, Hvitøyeand, Sumprikse).
