Description
Cardiff Bay is good for birds all year round. Residents include Steinvender, Svartrødstjert, Skjærpiplerke and Laksand. The first can be seen on the green walkways in groups, whilst the rest can be seen basking on the rocky edges.
Sandsvale, Taksvale and Tårnseiler can all be seen in summer. Taksvale nest in ready-made boxes under the eaves of houses by the roundabout barrage entrance. Sandsvale nest in the walls of the bay.
Tjeld can be seen on the barrage all year round, as well as Rødstilk. Grønnfink is another resident around the bay. When the tide goes out, many species, such as Gravand can be seen feeding.
Winter visitors include Dvergmåke. However, check sightings before going as they tend to move around a lot. Finally, rarities include Svarthalsdykker, Havelle and Ringand.
