Description
Chief habitats in Elan Valley and Gigrin Kites are: streams and open water, frequented by grebes, Fossekall and Vintererle. The ancient sessile oak woodland is home to Rødstjert, Svarthvit Fluesnapper, Bøksanger, Trekryper, Spurvehauk and open moorland containing Jordugle, Dvergfalk, Storspove, Heilo, Myrsnipe, Lirype, Steinskvett, Sanglerke, Svartstrupe Myrhauk and Ravn.

Access
Kite feeding station south of Rhayader feeds daily each afternoon. It has a hide and parking. Reservoirs are west of Rhayader and have several car parks, wetland birds usually at top ends. For a circular drive to see 4 of the 5 reservoirs, keep turning right to follow Elan valley. Claerwen reservoir is a dead end for cars.
