Mere Sands Wood is a Lancashire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve. Keep your eyes peeled for species like Dompap, Pilfink, Flaggspett and Spurvehauk as they fly to and from their nests in the woodland. If you take a seat in one of the lakeside hides you may see Toppdykker performing their elaborate courtship ritual. Isfugl are present as well as wintering Rørdrum. The lakes and reedbeds also support Vannrikse, Sivspurv, Kvinand, Taffeland and more.There are multiple hides, and it's easy walking.
