Description
The reservoir is shallow, having only a maximum depth of 9m (30’), which makes it very attractive to both dabbling and diving ducks. It occasionally attracts less common wildfowl, such as Laksand and Svartand and Gråstrupedykker, Svarthalsdykker and Horndykker. Waders are often present in spring and autumn, including Brushane, Skogsnipe, Enkeltbekkasin, Rødstilk, Tjeld and Dverglo. Scaling Dam can also be an excellent place to watch raptors and, from the hide, an eye should always be kept on the moorland plateau and valleys for Myrhauk, Sivhauk, Dvergfalk and Vandrefalk and, if you are extremely lucky, Glente or Fjellvåk. The site is also good for summer visitors, such as Gjøk, Buskskvett and Løvsanger, and residents like Svartstrupe, Vintererle and Pilfink.
There is a hide for birdwatching where you might see Vipe, Grågås, Kanadagås, Sangsvane and many wading birds.
