Hato Cristero comprises 500 hectares of protected areas, located in the Venezuelan plains, where a great variety of fauna can be observed, with more than 200 bird species. Birds you can observe include Horned Screamer, Great Potoo, Black-necked Stilt, Hoatzin, Sunbittern, Scarlet Ibis, White-throated Toucan, Crimson-crested Woodpecker, Chestnut-fronted Macaw and Green-rumped Parrotlet.

Hato Cristero is an eco‑agrotourism ranch located about twenty minutes from Barinas. The posada offers wildlife viewing services. The area can be explored on foot or by vehicle.
