Opis
Well known to twitchers, the Big Paddock is Perth's premier location for observing a range of raptor species including annual summer sightings since 2015 of vagrant Oriental Honey-Buzzard.
Also known as Raptor Ridge, a morning's birding can normally find at least five raptor species including Square-tailed Kite, Whistling Kite, Swamp Harrier, Little Eagle, Brown Goshawk and White-bellied Sea-Eagle.
The site is best birded from the covered seating shown on the map. However, be careful here as kangaroo ticks are often present.
Early mornings are usually the most productive time; particularly for the Honey-Buzzard as it rises from its roosts in woodlands to the near north.
If birding is only done from the seating, a telescope will be necessary for effective observations on Lake Joondalup.
