Brakouter is an open farmland area where you will find the last large stronghold of the potrzeszcz in Flanders. Other farmland birds such as skowronek, makolągwa and kuropatwa also still breed in good numbers. At the end of August you have a good chance of seeing the mornel here. The błotniak zbożowy is present every year as a wintering bird.

Nederlands: Brakouter is een open akkergebied met nog een grote diversiteit aan typische akkervogelsoorten. Hier vind je het laatste grote bolwerk van de potrzeszcz in Vlaanderen. Ook andere akkervogels zoals skowronek, makolągwa en kuropatwa broeden nog in mooie aantallen. Eind augustus maak je hier grote kans op mornel. błotniak zbożowy is een vaste overwinteraar.

Brakouter is located southeast of Tienen and southwest of Sint-Truiden, near the village of Neerwinden. Although there is a lot of cut-through traffic, the concrete farm roads are not accessible to cars. The area is easily explored by bike or on foot. You can park at the bridge in Spoorwegstraat or at the Neerwinden station. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking spot. The circular route shown on the map is approximately 7 km.

Nederlands: Brakouter ligt ten zuidoosten van Tienen en ten zuidwesten van Sint-Truiden, bij het dorp Neerwinden. Ook al is er veel sluipverkeer, de betonnen landbouwwegen zijn niet toegankelijk voor personenwagens. Met de fiets of te voet is het gebied vlot te verkennen. Parkeren kan je aan de brug in de Spoorwegstraat of het station van Neerwinden. Druk op een P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar een parkeerplek. De rond lopende route die is weergegeven op de kaart is ongeveer 7 km.
