Once the capital of the Khmer Empire in the 10th century, Koh Ker is not only rich in history but also offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching in a quiet and natural forest environment. Koh Ker is surrounded by dry evergreen and semi-deciduous forest. You can explore forest trails and temple areas where a variety of woodland birds can be seen and heard. The combination of ancient ruins and natural forest makes Koh Ker a unique birding location in Cambodia.
You can observe many forest bird of the Cambodian dry forest including woodpeckers, barbets, drongos and minivets. Among the birds you can encounter are Lineated Barbet, White-rumped Falcon, Black-headed Woodpecker, Greater Flameback, Scarlet Minivet, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, Common Iora and Asian Barred Owlet.
