Fahrlander (Fahrländer) See is a rewarding birding area, especially from spring to late autumn. On the western shore, a dike path runs alongside a wide belt of reeds, offering the opportunity to observe a large number of species – a sight unparalleled in both its quantity and diversity in the Potsdam area. During migration seasons, surprising birdwatching opportunities are regularly available. Ample parking is provided, and a path of about 45 minutes is easily walkable.
On the northern shore (which lacks direct parking), a small hill (near the signposted center of Brandenburg) can be climbed, offering a view of almost the entire lake with a spotting scope. The Fahrlander See is located about 12 km north of Potsdam. The lake is easily accessible by bus from Potsdam. A 45-minute bike ride is also possible, with a worthwhile detour through the Lennésche Feldflur fields north of Potsdam. Parking is available on the western shore of the lake. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From the northern end, allow approximately 15 minutes for a walk.
