Opis
An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly piecuszek and pierwiosnek, but also piegża and kapturka. More mature trees provide habitat for puszczyk zwyczajny. kowalik and aleksandretta obrożna have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular zimorodek and pliszka górska, and occasional pluszcz in winter. In its lower tidal section krwawodziób is regular, and the semi-tame krzyżówkas can attract other ducks, including ohar, cyraneczka, and more rarely rożeniec and mandarynka. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; lodowiec, nurzyk and alka have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of mewa trójpalczastas moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
