Opis
Westwood Dam and Woodland is a hidden gem for birdwatching in Sheffield. The area has a variety of birds of prey including myszołów, sokół wędrowny, pustułka (zwyczajna), krogulec, puszczyk zwyczajny and pójdźka. As well as this, the small streams and brooks found within the woodland support pliszka górska territories, as well as small numbers of muchołówka szara in the summer.
Winter migrants include droździk and kwiczoł, as well as the occasional flock of jemiołuszka. Summer sightings include migrant piecuszek, gajówka, and pierwiosnek, as well as breeding słonka territories. The open water of Westwood Dam and Reservoir can produce some surprises, including łabędź krzykliwy in previous years. The woodland supported some of the city's last known pairs of dzięciołek in the early 2000s.
