Opis
The Embudo Canyon is located east of Albuquerque within the Sandia Foothills. It is a high desert canyon with cholla, prickly pear, chamisa, and juniper. Bids you can encounter in the area include Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Spotted Towhee, Canyon Towhee, Brewer's Sparrow, Black-chinned Sparrow, Black-throated Sparrow, Black-headed Grosbeak, Mountain Bluebird, Sage Thrasher, Crissal Thrasher, Curve-billed Thrasher, Cactus Wren, Bewick's Wren, Canyon Wren, Rock Wren, Cassin's Kingbird, Greater Roadrunner, Black-chinned Hummingbird, Broad-tailed Hummingbird, Rufous Hummingbird and Calliope Hummingbird.

Embudo Canyon is located east of Albuquerque. Follow Menaul Blvd or Indian School Rd east to the end of the road. Parking lots are at trailhead. Press P on the map for directions to a parking lot. Can be hiked on foot or by bicycle. No public transport to the area. Allow an hour or more. Picnic sheds available and dogs allowed; dog doo bags in parking area. Trails on sides of canyon may be more difficult than the one down the center. The trail shown on the map is a 10 km out-and-back trail. Bring water. Also there may be rattlesnakes in area.
