The ponds adjacent to the Neckel Rd landfill provide decent freshwater marsh habitat as well as the best gulling in the Imperial valley.

Opis

Its proximity to a landfill makes the ponds here the best place in Imperial county to look for rarer gulls in winter such as Iceland Gull (Thayer's), Lesser Black-backed Gull, and Glaucous-winged Gull. The marshy habitat around the ponds is also decent for water birds and shorebirds.

Park on Neckel Road. Press P on the map for directions. It is sometimes possible to walk through the tamarisks on a causeway into the center of the ponds for closer viewing. On occasion, there are additional gull flocks in the fields to the east.
