Descrição
Parque Provincial Cruce Caballero is a protected natural area created to preserve one of the last remaining stands of Paraná pine, also known as Araucaria angustifolia. This species once dominated large parts of the Atlantic Forest but is now endangered. The park covers over 430 hectares and is known for its lush vegetation, orchids, tree ferns, and diverse wildlife. The huge, ancient trees and giant tree ferns, great habitat-dependent endemics and a single loop path linking it all together make Cruce a great morning's birding. Some of the best birds here are Long-trained Nightjar, White-bearded Antshrike, Saffron Toucanet, White-browed Foliage-gleaner, Vinaceous-breasted Parrot, Helmeted Woodpecker, and Azure Jay.
