Descrição

The Isla de la Plata is a small island in the Pacific Ocean renowned for its rich biodiversity and ecological importance. It is part of the Machalilla National Park, a protected natural reserve aimed at conserving the marine and terrestrial ecosystems of the region. Isla de la Plata is sometimes referred to as a "Mini Galápagos" or “The Poor Man’s Galápagos,” because it hosts many seabird species typical of the Galápagos Islands. You can see five species of booby on the island (Blue-footed Booby, Red-footed Booby, Nazca Booby, Masked Booby, Peruvian Booby) and also birds like, Waved Albatross, Magnificent Frigatebird, Red-billed Tropicbird, Inca Tern, Brown Pelican and Peruvian Pelican.

The island’s vegetation consists mainly of coastal dry forest species, including shrubs and cacti adapted to the arid climate. Visitors often come for ecotourism, with guided hikes along trails that allow close but respectful observation of the wildlife and natural environment. Sea turtles can also be spotted in the surrounding waters. And during certain times of the year Humpback whales migrate nearby, offering spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities.
