The Laajalahti Nature Reserve is one of the best bird waters in the Helsinki metropolitan area. It is an excellent bird watching place both during migration times, but also in other periods outside winter the birding is good. The Maari Bird Tower is located at the end of Otaniemi, along the path from Konemiehentie. The shallow waters, reeds and wet meadows are a great place for waders, seabirds, geese, ducks, birds of prey and herons.

The Maari observation tower is located northwest of Helsinki. The place is accessible on foot and by bike. About 500 m from car parking. Click on P in the map to go to the parking. A spotting scope can be handy for comfortable observation. Most of the birds are found on the shallows, somewhat further away from the tower.
