Bughdasheni Lake is a relatively small lake south of the village of Gorelovka at the mouth of the Zagranichnaia River. Like the other lakes in the Javakheti region, the lake is located on a plateau. The lake is situated at an elevation of approximately 2,000 meters, resulting in a vast and sparsely vegetated landscape. Extensive agriculture is practiced around the lake.
In spring several water birds can be expected such as: Gaivota da Arménia, Pelicano-vulgar, Pelicano-crespo, Íbis-preta, Grou-comum, Mergulhão-de-pescoço-ruivo, Mergulhão-de-pescoço-preto and Garça-roxa. There is also an island where Socó-taquari and a breeding colony of Corvo-marinho-de-faces-brancas are present. In addition, several Gralha-de-nuca-cinzenta (soemmerringii) are present on dung heaps near the village of Gorelovka. The Cegonha-branca is well represented in the area around the lake as a breeding bird. In spring there is a chance of seeing Black-headed wagtail, Alvéola-citrina and Petinha-de-garganta-ruiva directly around the lake. The plains surrounding the lake are full of Trigueirão en Laverca.

Bughdasheni Lake is located 175 km southwest of Tblisi. The lake can be reached from Ninotsminda by driving the paved road (E691) to Gorelovka. In Gorelovka, turn right onto a dirt road that crosses a river. This road is in poor condition, and you should drive all the way to the end until you see a birdwatching hut on the right. Press P on the map for directions.
