Descrição
Vardzia is a 12th‑century cave monastery complex. The site combines a great site with historical significance with birdwatching. Trepadeira-rupestre are numerous and a walk through the many rooms hacked into the stone face of the valley will result in hearing Milheirinha-de-testa-vermelha and Melro-azul. During Spring and Summer months, Andorinhão-real can be seen high above the valley. There are many nests of Androinha-das-rochas and Andorinho-dos-beirais along the rock faces and Perdiz-chukar can be heard in the surroundings. During the winter months, Trepadeira-dos-muros can be found on the cliff walls. Melro-d'água are common along the Kura river.
There is some debate on the occurrence of Trepadeira-rupestre-oriental in this area, so be the first to definitively prove its occurrence! A small lake (1) along the road to Vardzia is good for migrants during Spring migration with Felosa-agrícola, Felosa-real and many Garça-pequena.
