Descrição
The Danube oxbow near Tegernheim is a quiet floodplain landscape with still backwaters, shallow channels, reedbeds, wet meadows, shrubs, and riparian woodland, creating a rich mosaic of habitats.
In winter, the Danube near Regensburg hosts resting Merganso-pequeno and Merganso-grande, along with Piadeira and Pato-olho-d'ouro. Zarro-comum and Zarro-negrinha are also common. Scarcer visitors include Cisne-bravo, Ganso-grande-de-testa-branca and Tundra Bean Goose, and on very rare occasions Ganso-pequeno-de-testa-branca. Careful scanning of shrubs may reveal Picanço-grande, while Tartaranhão-azulado is sometimes seen hunting overhead. From time to time Águia-rabalva can fly by.
With the first warm days of spring, waders such as Maçarico-real, Maçarico-de-bico-direito, Pássaro-bique-bique, and Narceja-comum appear. In April and May, numbers increase and are joined by Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis, Águia-pesqueira, and Bútio-vespeiro. From mid-April onward, Andorinha-do-mar-comum and Marreco become increasingly frequent on the water.
The site is especially attractive for its tranquility, seasonal bird diversity, and excellent opportunities to observe waterbirds and raptors at close range in a natural setting.
