The beautiful, open, dry mountainous landscape around Agia Paraskevi has a high biodiversity. The sea is also nearby. In spring you can sometimes see Felosa-assobiadeira passing by. The villages are swarming with Pardal-italiano and Corvo and Búteo-mouro fly overhead. Sometimes you can spot a Garça-roxa flying over. If you go higher up you can encounter Grifo-comum and Quebra-ossos. You can also see Felosa de Rüppell in the mountains. The Toutinegra-de-cabeça-preta can be heard singing almost everywhere. You also see Poupa regularly.

Agia Paraskevi is located roughly in the center of the island of Crete, about 70 km southwest of Heraklion. The area is fairly remote and can be explored by car via the main roads, making stops along the way. Cycling is very difficult because there are many long, steep mountains. The road is almost always paved, but not all sections are in the best condition. You can park almost anywhere by car. If you want to see the most birds, go to both the sea and the mountains, but that will certainly take a whole day. The route indicated on the map is about 80 km.
