Descrição
Pollardstown Fen is recognised as an internationally important fen ecosystem and many birds breed here. A walk along the boardwalk on an early spring morning is awash with singing birds. Marrequinha-comum, Mergulhão-pequeno, Frango-d'água, Narceja-comum, Felosa-malhada, Felosa-dos-juncos and Escrevedeira-dos-caniços all breed on the fen. In the surrounding woodlands, Toutinegra-de-barrette-preto, Felosa-comum, Felosa-musical and Papa-moscas-cinzento all breed and Pombo-bravo have been recorded in the surrounding farmland.
The fen is also the best place in Kildare to see Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis, with the species recorded sporadically in the last number of years. The area is under-birded and there is potential for many more interesting discoveries.
