The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see Flamingo-comum, several species of ducks, Galeirão-comum, Abibe-comum, different species of herons, Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis, Guarda-rios-comum, Chapim-de-faces-pretas and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as Perna-verde-comum and Pernilongo, as well as migratory ducks like Marreco and Zarro-castanho. The site is one of the last places where Pardilheira breeds in Italy. Re-introduced Caimão can also be seen.
