Descrição
Charyn Canyon is a National Park and consists of a gorge surrounded by sandstone cliffs. The canyon consists of a section that is now dry and a section through which the Sharyn River flows. The canyon is impressive but offers little diversity in habitats. The western side of the canyon consists of a steppe landscape from which the area can be explored. This steppe borders a gorge with sandstone cliffs and steppe vegetation. This connects to the Sharyn River, which is surrounded by tall vegetation and sandstone cliffs.
During a visit in summer you can see bird species such as: Pied Wheatear, Asian Desert Warbler, Brown-necked Raven, Horned Lark (Brandt's), Booted Eagle, Steppe Eagle, Black-bellied Sandgrouse and Mongolian Finch. The area is a beautiful addition to a day trip around Almaty. The canyon isn't home to any unique bird species absent elsewhere in the region, but it's worth a visit.
