The Aakvlaai was constructed to compensate for closed waterways in the Biesbosch and is now a kind of “Biesbosch in miniature”. It is a recreation and nature reserve of 180 hectares on the edge of the Biesbosch. You will find creeks, islands and beaches. The area is designed for recreation, so it can get quite busy in the summer. The Aakvlaai is especially popular with nature photographers, because the animals here are used to people and boats and are therefore easier to capture.

Nederlands: De Aakvlaai werd aangelegd als compensatie voor afgesloten vaarwegen in de Biesbosch en is nu een soort “Biesbosch in het klein”. Het nu een recreatie‑ en natuurgebied van 180 hectare aan de rand van de Brabantse Biesbosch. Je vindt er kreken, eilandjes en stranden. Het gebied is ingericht voor recreatie, dus in de zomer kan het er redelijk druk worden. De Aakvlaai is vooral populair bij natuurfotografen, omdat de dieren hier zijn gewend aan mensen en boten en daardoor gemakkelijker zijn vast te leggen.

The Aakvlaai is located between Hank and Drimmelen. From Drimmelen, the area is only accessible by boat. Although there is a walking path, the area is best explored by boat. Boats are available for rent in Drimmelen and Raamsdonksveer. There are also various photo excursions offered in this area. Press a P on the map for directions to a car park.

Nederlands: De Aakvlaai ligt tussen Hank en Drimmelen. Vanuit Drimmelen is het gebied alleen per boot bereikbaar. Hoewel er een wandelpad loopt is dit gebied het beste per boot te verkennen. In Drimmelen en Raamsdonksveer zijn bootjes te huur. Er zijn ook verschillende foto excursies die in dit gebied worden aangeboden.
