De Moerputten is a nature reserve very close to the city of 's-Hertogenbosch (als known as Den Bosch). The 118-hectare site is one of the few remaining peat bogs south of the major rivers in The Netherlands. The area consists of many different terrain types. There are hay meadows, reed beds, swamps, open waters and willow thickets. The area has a rich but fragile flora and fauna. You will find deer, foxes and nice birds such as Frango-d'água, Marreco, Pisco-de-peito-azul, Rouxinol-comum, Cartaxo-comum and Petinha-das-árvores. A successful attempt has been made in the area to reintroduce the Scarce Large Blue (Phengaris teleius), a species of butterfly extinct in Belgium and The Netherlands.

Nederlands: De Moerputten is een natuurgebied vlakbij Den Bosch. Het 118 hectare grote terrein is een van de weinige overgebleven veengebieden ten zuiden van de grote rivieren in Nederland. Het gebied bestaat uit veel verschillende terreintypes. Er zijn hooilanden, rietvelden, moerassen, open water en wilgenstruiken. Het gebied heeft een rijke maar kwetsbare flora en fauna. Je vindt er herten, vossen en leuke vogels zoals Frango-d'água, Marreco, Pisco-de-peito-azul, Rouxinol-comum, Cartaxo-comum en Petinha-das-árvores. In het gebied is een succesvolle poging gedaan om het zeldzame pimpernelblauwtje (Phengaris teleius), een in België en Nederland uitgestorven vlindersoort, opnieuw te introduceren.

A nice aspect of a walk through the Moerputten is the Moerputtenbrug, an old railway bridge over the peat lake Lange Putten in what later became a nature reserve Moerputten. The bridge has been a pedestrian bridge since the turn of the century gives a good view of the lake.
