Descrição
The Ermita de San Jose valley is just north of Teguise. The area off the LZ-10 allows a circular walk on fairly flat well defined tracks. It is popular with runners and cyclists so mid-week is usually quieter. Corre-caminho, Picanço-grande, Pardal-espanhol, peneireiro-de-dorso-malhado / peneireiro and Corvo are easily seen. Alcaravão is regularly heard and sometimes seen. Poupa and Abetarda-moura are possible.
Alcaravão and other birds can also be seen above the valley but that does involve a somewhat energetic scramble.

The Ermita de San Jose area is located just outside Teguise. I used to park at the back of the school and I assume that is still possible, but staff and students do park there. I now turn off the LZ-10 going towards Haria on the unmade road signed Las Nieves 5 and park either where the unmade road goes right at a crossroads or continue straight at that point and park just after the junction. Access by cycle would be easy and buses go to Teguise. It would then be a relatively short walk to the school and start from there. Press a P on the map for directions.

A telescope might be useful if trying. To see Alcaravão at the site identified on the west side of the valley, where I have only ever been able to hear them. However I have once seen one on a cultivated part of the valley floor, so they could turn up anywhere.
