Descrição
Secà de Bellmunt is a good place to look for steppe birds. The landscape is dominated by dry cereal crops, fallows and small scrublands with some holly oaks. The most iconic steppe species are Sisão, Cuco-rabilongo, Tartaranhão-caçador, Rolieiro-comum, and Calhandra-comum. Other interesting resident species are Cotovia-montesina, picanço-real, Peto-real-ibérico , Mocho-galego and Alcaravão.
During the breeding season some noteworthy species are Abutre do Egipto, Ógea, Peneireiro-das-torres, Felosa de Bonelli, and Toutinegra-carrasqueira. In winter, Tartaranhão-azulado and Esmerilhão can be present in the area.
The Urgell channel is a very good place to look for passerine migrants, and in the breeding season several species like Gralha-de-nuca-cinzenta, Abelharuco-comum, Andorinha-das-barreiras or Pardal-francês breed in the walls.

Secà de Bellmunt is located 40 km northeast of Lleida. Press P on the map for directions. The site can be visited by walking or by car. Walking is the best way to look for some species detected by sound. Visiting the site by car allows to explore a greater area. The route shown on the map is about 10 km one way.
The place can get very hot in summer, so it is best to go birding in the early morning. In winter it can be foggy.
