Torsö is the largest island in Lake Vänern. It covers about 6,200 hectares and is connected to the mainland by the Torsö Bridge. The island has dense forest, rocky shores, marshland, reedbeds, sandy areas, and meadows. A wide variety of habitats in a compact area. It's also a beautiful place to enjoy the scenery. Woodpeckers, tits, swans, divers and many other bird species can be found in the area.

Acesso
The island of Torsö is accessible via a large bridge. From Mariestad: Drive north about 15 km. The Torsö Bridge (opened in 1994, 900 m long) takes you straight onto the island. From Gothenburg: About 2 hours (170 km). Take the E20 motorway northeast toward Mariestad, then follow signs to Torsö. From Stockholm: roughly 3.5–4 hours (300 km). Take the E20 west toward Mariestad, then cross the bridge. The remote corners of the island are easily accessible with paved roads and parking facilities. Press a P on the map for directions.
By train and bus: Mariestad is on the Kinnekullebanan railway, with connections from Gothenburg and Lidköping. Local buses run from Mariestad to Torsö, especially in summer when demand is higher.
