The Wohlensee stretches about 7 km from Wohlen to Muehleberg and is bordered by reedbeds. The aquatic vegetation attracts a vast number of birds, in particular wintering waterfowl: Cisne-vulgar, Frisada, Zarro-negrinha, Zarro-comum, Pato-de-bico-vermelho, Marrequinha-comum. The surrounding forests host woodland species such as Pica-pau-malhado-grande, Pica-pau-preto, Pica-pau-verde. Recent restoration of hedges in the surrounding fields has seen the return of Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo. During migration thousands of martins and swallows.
