Descrição

Sukhothai Historical Park covers the ruins of Sukhothai, capital of the Sukhothai Kingdom in the 13th and 14th centuries. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and often considered the birthplace of Thai civilization. The park contains temples, palaces, and monuments that showcase early Thai architecture and art. Because the ruins are surrounded by lush greenery, ponds, and lotus-filled lakes, it's also great to do some birding on the side. Birds you can spot include Green-billed Malkoha, Greater Coucal, Red-wattled Lapwing, Little Grebe, Asian Openbill, Little Cormorant, Black-crowned Night Heron, Little Egret, Chinese Pond-Heron, Eastern Cattle-Egret, Spotted Owlet, Eurasian Hoopoe, Asian Green Bee-eater, White-throated Kingfisher, Black Drongo and Indochinese Roller.

Acesso

Sukhothai Historical Park is located 12 km west of the modern town of Sukhothai in the north-central region of Thailand, and roughly 420 km north of Bangkok. If you are traveling from Bangkok, the most common way is by bus or train combined with local transport. Direct buses from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit) to Sukhothai take about 6 to 7 hours. From the Sukhothai bus station, you can take a local songthaew (shared truck taxi) or a tuk-tuk to the Historical Park, which is about a 20-30 minute drive away.

Once you arrive in Sukhothai town or at the park entrance, renting a bicycle is a popular way to explore the extensive grounds of the Historical Park. The park is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The entrance fee for foreign visitors is approximately $ 32. Make sure you visit early in the day or later in the afternoon, as it can be scorching hot in the middle of the day and you will hardly see any birds.
