Balcary Bay to Rascarrel has a diverse range of habitats. Sea cliff birds include Fulmar-glacial, Arau-comum, Arau-d'asa-branca, Torda-mergulheira, Gaivota-tridáctila, Cartaxo-comum, peneireiro-de-dorso-malhado / peneireiro, Petinha-marítima and Gralha-de-bico-vermelho. At sea, look for Pato-preto, Ganso-patola, Eider-edredão and divers. In Rascarrel forest Trepadeira-do-bosque, Estrelinha-de-poupa, Cruza-bico-comum and woodpeckers. Cisne-bravo and winter wildfowl on Loch Mackie.

From Dumfries take A711 SW for 15 miles. Car parking at Balcary or Rascarrel. Click on the P in the map for directions. From Dalbeattie, bus 505 runs 7 times a day to Auchencairn.
The circular walk is 4 and 1/2 miles. NB the clifftop section is narrow and steep. Avoid if you have balance problems, children or dogs, also on windy days .
