Berney Marshes and Breydon Water attract thousands of waders and waterfowls in winter. Birds are usually distant in the mudflats when the tide is low. In summer Alfaiate, Perna-vermelha-comum and Abibe-comum breed in the reserve.

Berney Marshes Reserve: by foot (Weaver's way trail) or train (Berney Arms station) only. Strictly no car access. Breydon Water: by foot (a trail runs all around the estuary, Weaver's Way and Angle's way), train (Great Yarmouth station) or by car (stop at Burgh Castle or at Asda Great Yarmouth).
