Descrição
Brockholes was previously a sand and gravel quarry and has been transformed into a natural haven. Fields brimming with orchids and yellow rattle, woods shining bright with bluebells. The land has been regenerated as a mosaic of key habitats such as pools, reedbeds and woodland. In spring birds like Abibe-comum, Ostraceiro, Perna-vermelha-comum and more breed on Meadow Lake and Number 1 Pit. In May, Maçarico-galego roost in large numbers, while throughout spring and summer swifts, Andorinha-das-barreiras and Ógea create aerial displays over the lakes. Autumn is the time to see Águia-pesqueira passing over Brockholes on their way back to Africa, while in winter, the reserve is packed with migratory waders. Other birds you can see here are Pintassilgo, Chapim-rabilongo, Chapim-preto, Felosa-dos-juncos, Guarda-rios-comum, Maçarico-real and Zarro-negrinha.
