Descrição
Cardiff Bay is good for birds all year round. Residents include Rola-do-mar, Rabirruivo-preto, Petinha-marítima and Merganso-grande. The first can be seen on the green walkways in groups, whilst the rest can be seen basking on the rocky edges.
Andorinha-das-barreiras, Andorinho-dos-beirais and Andorinhão-preto can all be seen in summer. Andorinho-dos-beirais nest in ready-made boxes under the eaves of houses by the roundabout barrage entrance. Andorinha-das-barreiras nest in the walls of the bay.
Ostraceiro can be seen on the barrage all year round, as well as Perna-vermelha-comum. Verdilhão-comum is another resident around the bay. When the tide goes out, many species, such as Pato-branco can be seen feeding.
Winter visitors include Gaivota-pequena. However, check sightings before going as they tend to move around a lot. Finally, rarities include Mergulhão-de-pescoço-preto, Pato-de-cauda-afilada and Zarro-de-colar.
