The Deben Estuary is a nationally and internationally significant wintering area for up to 6,000 Tarambola-dourada, 600 Maçarico-de-bico-direito, Perna-vermelha-comum and 400+ Alfaiate. Also Pilrito-comum, Seixoeira, Tarambola-cinzenta and Abibe-comum. Pato-olho-d'ouro at Martlesham Creek and Mobêlha-grande at Ramsholt. Mergulhão-de-crista, Mergulhão-de-pescoço-castanho, Mergulhão-de-pescoço-preto and Frango-d'água possible. Small flock of Pintarroxo-de-bico-amarelo most winters. High tides are best for seeing roosting waders, check tide times and height first (see the link below). Take care not to get cut off by exceptionally high tides.

From Ipswich take A12 to Woodbridge then various minor roads to Waldringfield on south bank or Bawdsey on north bank. Boat hire available Woodbridge or Waldringfield.
