At Gunthorpe Gravel Pits 120+ species of bird have been seen, including Merganso-pequeno, Merganso-grande and Merganso-de-poupa in winter, when Abibe-comum, Pato-trombeteiro and teal can be numerous on flooded fields. Spring brings rouxinol-dos-caniços, Felosa-dos-juncos, Felosa-malhada to breed, and Gaivina-preta, Chasco-cinzento and Cartaxo-nortenho on migration. In summer, Ógea hunt swallows over the ponds.
