Descrição
Marden Quarry local nature reserve has mature woodland and limestone grassland, virtually the only exposure of magnesium limestone north of the River Tyne. A large wildfowl lake supporting breeding birds such as the Cisne-vulgar, Pato-real, Galeirão-comum, and Galinha-d'água. Other common birds you can observe in the area include Ganso-comum, Ganso do Canadá, Frisada, Zarro-comum, Pombo-torcaz, Tordo-zornal, Tordo-ruivo-comum, Estrelinha-de-poupa, Chapim-rabilongo, Pica-pau-malhado-grande and Andorinhão-preto.
The natural cover provided here, only half a mile from the coast, can also attract migrants/vagrants. This has in the past included Pintarroxo-carmíneo, Felosa-troquilóide, Felosa-boreal, Papa-moscas-pequeno and Felosa-bilistada.
