The Mendip Hills are an excellent hiking and cycling area with several convenient car parks. Less common birds include Felosa-do-mato on Crook Peak and Black Down; Bufo-pequeno and Noitibó da Europa on Stock Hill. Raptors include falcão-peregrino, peneireiro-de-dorso-malhado / peneireiro, Águia-d'asa-redonda and Milhafre-real. There are greater and lesser horseshoe bats, and great crested newts in the quarry pools.

Marked on the map is an 8 km out-and-back trail to Crook Peak and an 11 km circular trail going through Compton Wood, Hazel Park, Black Moor Reserve and Cheddar Gorge.
