Descrição
The River Blyth estuary has intertidal mudflats and the river itself attracts waders and wildfowl, especially during migration. Among the birds you can encounter are Pato-branco, Eider-edredão, Ostraceiro, Abibe-comum, Borrelho-grande-de-coleira, Seixoeira, Pilrito-comum, Pilrito-de-bico-comprido, Pilrito-pequeno, Maçarico-real, Maçarico-galego, Maçarico-das-rochas and Fuselo. In recent years, there has been a noticeable spring pre-breeding gathering of Alfaiate in March and April. Recent rarities include a Pilrito-de-pescoço-ruivo from 5-7 June 2021. At the east end of the site, the old Bates Colliery works have been reclaimed, and offer some small freshwater pools and shrub habitat that are attracting a range of warblers and finches.
