Descrição
The reservoir is shallow, having only a maximum depth of 9m (30’), which makes it very attractive to both dabbling and diving ducks. It occasionally attracts less common wildfowl, such as Merganso-grande and Pato-preto and Mergulhão-de-pescoço-ruivo, Mergulhão-de-pescoço-preto and Mergulhão-de-pescoço-castanho. Waders are often present in spring and autumn, including Combatente, Pássaro-bique-bique, Narceja-comum, Perna-vermelha-comum, Ostraceiro and Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira. Scaling Dam can also be an excellent place to watch raptors and, from the hide, an eye should always be kept on the moorland plateau and valleys for Tartaranhão-azulado, Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis, Esmerilhão and falcão-peregrino and, if you are extremely lucky, Milhafre-real or Búteo-calçado. The site is also good for summer visitors, such as Cuco-canoro, Cartaxo-nortenho and Felosa-musical, and residents like Cartaxo-comum, Alvéola-cinzenta and Pardal-montez.
There is a hide for birdwatching where you might see Abibe-comum, Ganso-comum, Ganso do Canadá, Cisne-bravo and many wading birds.
