Wales  >  United Kingdom

One of the best wetland sites in Wales, with over wintering birds including thousands of Estorninho-malhado coming in to roost, but all year round good birding.

Descrição

Teifi Marshes reserve is situated on the floor of the wide pre-glacial channel left by the former course of the Teifi and now occupied by the river Piliau, which meanders through the marshes in a narrow but deceptively deep cut. A range of habitats is supported, from open pasture and well wooded hedgerows, through Alder and Willow carr, freshwater marsh with open pools and reedbeds to tidal mudbanks. Flooding is extensive in winter, when the area attracts large numbers of wildfowl, notably Marrequinha-comum, Piadeira and Pato-real. Frango-d'água are present in winter in considerable numbers, and other regular winter visitors include Narceja-comum, Maçarico-real and Abibe-comum. falcão-peregrino hunt over the marshes. Breedings birds include Pato-branco, rouxinol-dos-caniços, Felosa-dos-juncos, Papa-amoras-comum, papa-amoras-cinzento and Rouxinol-bravo. Herons also breed nearby. You may be very lucky and see a Abetouro-comum. Check out the “Creek” and “Kingfisher” Hides for ducks, Guarda-rios-comum and Rouxinol-bravo , the “Curlew” Hide for Garça-real, Maçarico-real and larger gulls. The “Heron or Pentwd” Hide is good for Marrequinha-comum, Piadeira, Pássaro-bique-bique, Perna-vermelha-comum and has a good view over the whole marsh.
