Descrição
An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly Felosa-musical and Felosa-comum, but also papa-amoras-cinzento and Toutinegra-de-barrette-preto. More mature trees provide habitat for Coruja-do-mato. Trepadeira-azul and Periquito-de-colar have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular Guarda-rios-comum and Alvéola-cinzenta, and occasional Melro-d'água in winter. In its lower tidal section Perna-vermelha-comum is regular, and the semi-tame Pato-reals can attract other ducks, including Pato-branco, Marrequinha-comum, and more rarely Arrabio and Pato-mandarim. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; Mobêlha-grande, Arau-comum and Torda-mergulheira have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of Gaivota-tridáctilas moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
