Descrição
Westwood Dam and Woodland is a hidden gem for birdwatching in Sheffield. The area has a variety of birds of prey including Águia-d'asa-redonda, falcão-peregrino, peneireiro-de-dorso-malhado / peneireiro, Gavião da Europa, Coruja-do-mato and Mocho-galego. As well as this, the small streams and brooks found within the woodland support Alvéola-cinzenta territories, as well as small numbers of Papa-moscas-cinzento in the summer.
Winter migrants include Tordo-ruivo-comum and Tordo-zornal, as well as the occasional flock of Tagarela-europeu. Summer sightings include migrant Felosa-musical, Felosa-das-figueiras, and Felosa-comum, as well as breeding Galinhola territories. The open water of Westwood Dam and Reservoir can produce some surprises, including Cisne-bravo in previous years. The woodland supported some of the city's last known pairs of Pica-pau-malhado-pequeno in the early 2000s.
