Cypress-lined Trap Pond offers the best access to southern forest types in Delaware. Built around a 90 acre mill pond, the park features a network of flat, sandy trails to explore the area. Birds you can observe in the baldcypress swamp and the surrounding forest include Summer Tanager, Kentucky Warbler and other summer migrants. As well as woodpeckers and Bald Eagle year round. Waterfowl and Tundra Swan are abundant in the winter months.

Trap Pond State Park is located in Laurel, Delaware, in Sussex County. From US 13 & Route 24 just east of Laurel, go east on 24 for 4.6 miles, then turn right (S) on Road 449 (Trap Pond Road). Press a P on the map for directions to one of the parkings.

Trap Pond State Park is open daily from 8:00 am to sunset. Entrance fee: DE registered vehicle: $4/day, Non-DE registered vehicle: $8/day. Walking/biking: Free. There are excellent opportunities for both hiking and boating. You can rent a boat or join a guided tour into the pond's scenic headwaters (mid-April through October) for the best views of the bald cypress forest. You can also put your own canoe or kayak in at Trap Pond.

For walking there are many trails to choose from. The Bob Trail (indicated on the map), is the best option for birdwatching. This 4.5 miles circular trail winds around Trap Pond and links the Park Office, campground, and Baldcypress Nature Center. The trail follows a crushed stone surface and traverses a fresh water wetland over an elevated bridge.
