Description
The area is of great importance for breeding birds of semi-natural grasslands and wetlands. Around 80 species of breeding birds are recorded annually, including Culic mare, Nagâț, Barză albă , Corcodel mic, Cârstel de baltă, Prepeliță, Rață cârâitoare, Rață mică, Rață lingurar, Rață pestriță, Șoimul rândunelelor, Cuc, Gușă vânătă, Mărăcinar negru, Lăcar de stuf (rarely Lăcar mic and Lăcar mare) and Sfrâncioc roșiatic. Large flocks of Gârliță mare use the area during winter, and also a small group of Gârliță mică from a rewilding project in Sweden has established a "tradition" to visit the area for wintering, starting in 2017. In late winter, the area serves as roosting place for hundreds of Cocor and during spring migration, a great variety of ducks and waders can be encountered. Occasionally, rarities show up (e.g. Stârc roșu, Rață roșie, Cresteț cenușiu).
