Description
The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see Flamingo roz, several species of ducks, Lișiță, Nagâț, different species of herons, Erete de stuf, Pescăraș albastru, Boicuș and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as Fluierar cu picioare verzi and Piciorong, as well as migratory ducks like Rață cârâitoare and Rață roșie. The site is one of the last places where Rață porumbacă breeds in Italy. Re-introduced Găinușă albastră can also be seen.
